The following changes have occurred in the World Factbook.
World Changes:
Countries or areas that no longer exist:
Soviet Union
Yugoslavia
Iraq/Saudi Neutral zone
Newly formed countries:
Armenia
Azerbaijan
Bosnia and Hercegovina
Croatia
Estonia
Georgia
Kazakhstan
Kyrgystan
Latvia
Lithuania
Macedonia
Moldova
Russia
Serbia and Montenegro
Slovenia
Tajikistan
Turkmenistan
Ukraine
Uzbekistan
These changes resulted from the breakup of the Soviet Union and
Yugoslavia. Note that the breakup of Czechoslovakia did not
officially occur until January 1993 and is represented as one country.
Our changes:
New data from the CIA for all the countries.
Added State Department data including:
Entry requirements, travel advisories, consular notes, background
notes, photos, special topics, and terror group profiles.
Added CIA regional maps.
Added photos of points of interest for selected countries.
Added rankings of the countries across 24 selected statistics
for comparisons across countries. Also added 48 charts
that compare the top and bottom ten countries for each statistic.
Added animated spinning globe with sound.
